What is copywriting?

Copywriting refers to the act of writing sales copy for the purpose of Advertising, to persuade prospects or customers to buy a product or service.

The product called copy is a written content that aim to increase brand awareness and ultimately persuade a person or group of people to take a particular action.

Sales copy I very important more than you think. Many people mistakenly believe designs alone sells product, that is not true. Yes, good design is important but without sales copy it won't Produce income for the business.

Your sales copy has to present your product or service in an attractive way that the consumer can not say No.

Basaic Difference between copywriting and content writing

Copy writing is advertorial in nature as it's intent is to pitch customers to use a brand's product and/or service. While content writing is the the act of writing content which informs, educates or entertain.
Note;
The ultimate objective of copywriting is to sell an idea whereas the ultimate objective of content writing aims to create valuable content to help the audience understand your brand and generate interest.

Tips on How To produce Eye-catchy, persuasive, Engaging sales copy

1) Understand Your Audience
You can not write a good sales copy without knowing who you are selling to. 

If you are selling to females, know the feminine language to use, if you are addressing the Elites, check your grammatical structure, be convincing enough with proofs for them to believe you. 

If you are selling to the youths, Address them as such, use slangs, latest music, introduce humour to attract them.

Place yourself as the audience and you will know how best to address them.

2) Use A Catchy Title
The title is an important aspect of your sales copy. It must be attractive enough to draw the attention of your customers or audience.

Several adverts are placed before people on the internet daily. So if yours is not attractive, there will be poor response.

Hey! Discover the secret of ...........
Who else wants ..........
Here is a quick way to .....
Now you can .........
What everybody ought to know about .......
Here is a quick way to .........
How you can profit from .......

3) Opening
This is the introductory part of your sales copy. If your readers will continue to read or stop it depends on this.

Make it readable/scannable. Write them in chunks. Adopt the story telling pattern .
 You can begin by asking a question like Do you know that You can earn more than 200,000 naira in a month just by replying messages online? Just include what you are doing and the person would read further to know how?

Touch their Emotions, their pain points, the things that they would want to get rid off. Acknowledge it, state the effect and show empathy.

4) Outline The Benefits of your Product or service

Here you are expected o outline the benefits of service or Product and NOT the FEATURES. People don't buy the product rather they buy Value or benefit of the product.

There is a difference between these statements;
(a) Buy 2 tickets and win 5,000 points 
(b) Buy 2 tickets and win 5,000 points to qualify for a free ride to Lagos.

The second statement states the benefit of acquiring the 5,000 points unlike in the first statement, so if you don't state what the person will gain, the 5,000 points become useless.


5) Identify Buyers Objections and work Against Them
Some prospects may tell you that "they will get back to you", this means that they don't trust what you said, let them confirm or need more time to think about it.
Another objection is "I don't have the money" - This is not mostly true .it is because they don't trust the process. If they do, they will budget for it or use available fund for it as priority.

One other Objection you may encounter is " I don't have time" this I because they don't know how to manage their time. Address all these and hit the target.

6) Prove Visitors Can Trust You
The internet space is filled with a lot of fraudulent people. People/users have had ugly experiences while dealing online.
So you need Social proof that you are real and can be trusted with their money. Show them evidence that you have been doing this for a while hence they are save doing business with you.

How do you go about this? Show social proof, upload testimonials from customers. You can use Landing page for this. Just as Customers review is necessary, so also guarantee is necessary.

7) Create Attractive Call To Action (CTA)
It is meaningless if your sales copy has no call To Action - CTA. What does this mean? It simply means what you want your audience to do. Should they sign up? Buy a product? Subscribe to your services? Click your link, watch a video? Share your posts?

8) Make It Urgent (Create Scarcity)
Human beings like procrastinating but hate missing out on anything and a time Limited offer fuels that fear, increasing conversation and sales.
Introduce discount and limit time to access the discount offer.

9) Read It Aloud 
This is the final touch. By reading it aloud, it will enable you to notice any mistakes and corrections to perfect the work.  Your sales copy should be spoken words in written form.
